A fearsome foray into my fiber follies. I talk about weaving, knitting, spinning and dyeing. Some chatter about the sheep, goats, pigs and chickens.

Nine Rag Rugs

denim rug

It looks so much nicer in person. Here it looks bumpy with bad selveges. Not so.

love the fabric hem over one created from rug warp

multi-colored warp and black fabric

flannel rug

and a matching flannel rug

denim rug with white denim stripes

taupe sheeting with multi-color warp

rosepath design showing front and back. That's the hem in the center

Black and white warp and black patterned sheeting

another rosepath rug but showing the back. Problem. I was careful to run each fabric strip, face up, in each pick. I was very pleased with the lighter shade on the reverse side of the rug. However, half way through the color changed. I can't figure out why. One one side (up while weaving) the color is consistent. The color shifted on the other side. The fabric is all from the same source and was washed. No idea what happened.

Lovely. I adore rag rugs and with winter coming, I feel all cozy now.

Nice site!

Very nice! How much denim is used in one of those rugs? I'm thinking rugs will be my next weaving project and it would be nice to know ahead of time how much I need to strip. But I'm okay with the serendipity approach too! :-)

Kimberly, I keep meaning to keep track but then get carried away and cut up all the jeans I have on hand. I'd say a dozen pair of adult jeans for a 30x60 rug and I'm sure you'll have some left over.

How many rugs were there? I lost count. Are they commissions or how do you sell them??

I do commissions, but these are for a small harvest festival held here every year. I was asked to bring rugs to sell, so this is a first. First year at anything can be tough, so I don't know if many will be sold. I sure hope so.
