Is summer almost over?
Flowers in August. They're really much more vibrant in color but the sun is bright and a photographer I'm not. Yes, over the years I have taken some pretty incredible pictures but I'm afraid they were incredible by accident. I see some leaves starting to turn and the day lilies are done for another year. We've had a few nights in the 40's already. I don't want summer to be over yet! This was to be the summer of drought and it wasn't thankfully, but we did have some nasty flooding. Lost about 200 ft of fence and a bridge crossing the stream to the meadow. The goats are not happy about that!
The spoons mentioned in a previous entry are done! I can tell you curly maple is not easy to work with, but (sly grin) with "stick-to-it-ive-ness it is very satisfying. I learned to progress from 60 to 1500 grit sandpaper. They are smooth as a babe's bottom. I really wish the grain showed up better, but as I mentioned, I'm not a photographer. I used different drapes and different lighting and this is the best I could do. Yup, used the two yard oops warp from hell. Gotta use it for something, after all.
I have a dozen other spoons at different stages. I think the new band saw will be delivered today. The other one is finicky and I don't "do" finicky.
I've hand painted another warp which is languishing in line. This will be a shawl for a friend that I'm bartering with.
Again, the colors are deeper and much less turquoise than shown. A lot less blurry too. Must be time for a tripod for the steady-hand impaired.
Claudia and Charleen were here last week. Claudia brought her incredible knitting and her loom for us to screw up. Unfortunately Charleen had a serious sinus headache and had to go home. Before she left we saw the sweaters she knit a la Claudia's designs. Claudia did some wheel diagnosis for Charleen. What a beautiful wheel. I love my Majacraft but it certainly would be wonderful to have a beautiful production wheel. But back to Charleen. We would not let her take back her homemade cookies or the great subs she brought. Claudia brought a delicious vegetarian lasagna. I got to eat Charleen's share! As usual, Claudia ducked out at dawn. I don't "do" dawn unless it's a trip to the loo. Char, want to try to come up one more time before you have to go back to teaching those 'lil darlings?
Just cooked my last meal of the season at journeys End Farm Camp. That always means summer is over. Sigh.
